who

we are

The Council for Youth Development (CYD) is a cross-sector coalition that aligns efforts to advance a culture of positive youth development in Bartholomew County.

Since 2005, CYD partner organizations have represented a cradle to career continuum serving and advocating for youth, birth to young adult, and their families throughout Bartholomew County.

Beginning in 2017, CYD became an active community partner with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation’s Counseling Counts Initiative. Essential to our collective work is the commitment to expand 40 Developmental Assets® and Developmental Relationships® training and resources for youth, families, and professionals to improve social-emotional health community-wide.

In 2018, CYD designed the county’s first Youth Master Plan prioritizing the well-being of our youngest residents. This community-wide commitment strengthened cross-sector collaboration and continues to focus on breaking down barriers and pursuing innovative solutions for all young people. Essential to improving upon this foundational work was the establishment of the Guiding Principles for Positive Youth Development by the Bartholomew County Youth Services Guiding Team and the launch of our Youth Development of Index in 2020*.

In 2022, CYD revised and published our Vision 2025 Youth Master Plan with the help of our growing coalition partners, diverse stakeholders, and dedicated staff. This bold blueprint for our community will help us align our work and maximize resources to improve outcomes for children, teens, and young adults living in Bartholomew County.

ABOUT SYSTEMS OF CARE INITIATIVE (IN-SOC)

Indiana is actively working to improve the access to and quality of behavioral and mental health services for youth and families. At the state level, the Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) is committed to the mission to ensure that Indiana citizens have access to quality mental health and addiction services that promote individual, family and community resiliency and recovery.

By taking a systems level approach to wellness, stakeholders intend to achieve:

  • Respect, compassion and values throughout the system

  • Efforts to be responsive and tailor effective services that supports the unique whole person

  • Services and supports are created and maintained based upon community data

  • The community recognizes that stakeholders responsible for the creation and maintenance of the system include youth and families

  • A community-based infrastructure plans, coordinates, implements, and sustains the system through accountability, evaluation, and quality assurance
